Getting the most from postgrad life.

I was in the same place that you are in right now last year and I know it can be a daunting experience while starting your Postgraduate course, as you have got just one year (unless you’ve got a placement, of course!) and so many things to do in such little time.

The best place to find people with the same interests as yours or any hobbies that you might be involved in is the Cardiff University’s SU (Student’s Union). There’s a pub too in the SU and the common area gets converted to a nightclub party venue every Wednesday’s and Saturday’s. So, try to get the most out of this whole experience by getting involved with various societies and clubs there are just so many of them to choose from. You will find that there are so many people with similar interests as yours from diverse backgrounds which makes for a truly enriching and unique experience. There are so many events organised throughout the year some of which may interest you. Of course, it's hard to predict how these events will be organised this year but each of the societies are trying their best to come up with new ways to engage and interact with people.

Now, obviously due to this pandemic it’s getting more difficult to meet people physically and take part in activities as a group. To tackle with this problem everyone at the University has been working hard to find alternatives to the traditional events that used to take place.

So, things have been moving online where now we have Virtual Career’s advice running every week where the Placement office can help you and guide you with your career path and all the preparation needed to get into your dream Company. Also, there is a separate session for people interested in Entrepreneurship or just have a business idea that would like to pitch, you can get a small grant from Cardiff University to make your dreams come true!

The whole team at CyberSoc is ready to welcome you with exciting events and socials throughout the year where you will be able to network with Industry professionals and learn new skills too in the process. In the end I would like to welcome you all to Cardiff University and hope that you have a good time too throughout this year from one postgrad to another!
